Wondering how an RO system works? Our reverse osmosis (RO) systems are designed to clean water using carbon filters and an osmosis membrane. Awesome! How do they help homeowners? These systems help reduce things like dissolved solids, chlorine taste and odor, sediment, microbial cysts, lead, and certain chemicals. Let's learn how it works below.
1. Untreated water flows from the cold water supply into the system through the green supply hose.
2. The water enters the Prefilter first, and then moves into the middle Membrane cartridge.
3. Inside the Membrane, contaminants are rinsed out through the red drain hose, while clean water (also called product water or treated water) flows into the yellow hose and into the storage tank. This process is slow and steady, producing about once ounce of clean water per minute.
4. The clean water fills the tank until it reaches full capacity. This water stays in the tank until ready to use it.
5. When the faucet is turned on, water is pushed from the tank bladder, through the yellow hose and into the Postfilter for one last cleaning.
6. Finally, the water flows up to the faucet - treated and ready to enjoy!
