This article outlines the steps for soaking and rinsing the Turbidex media in a commercial filter.
Media is pre-loaded into these residential units - the following steps should be performed before the initial pressurization:
- Allow filter media to soak for 12 to 24 hours after filling with water for proper saturation.
- Place filter into backwash and slowly purge air from systems by only partially opening the bypass.
- When all air has been purged increase flow by fully opening the bypass for ten minutes.
- Close the inlet supply and allow the media to settle for five minutes. Note: DO NOT DOWN-FLOW SYSTEM UNTIL ALL MEDIA FINES HAVE BEEN BACKWASHED TO DRAIN. Settling rinse or down-flow rinse before fines are removed may cause plugging of distributors.
- Repeat steps 4 and 5 until media is rinsed completely.
- Place the filter into Service position.
*Media ejected during backwash is most commonly a result of improper soaking or incorrectly sized DLFC.
