Do you need to replace the valve cover on a water softener? Let's get started!
Disassembling the Softener
1. Bypass the water softener.
2. Unplug your softener from the outlet.
3. Remove the top cover.
4. Disconnect the Motor's clear/white plastic connection.
5. Then disconnect the Wire Harness connector from the back of the board.
6. Go ahead and remove the yellow screws outlined below to free the Motor, Motor Plate or Cover, and Switchbox.
7. Pull the geared cam off the valve cover.
8. Now you'll remove the 6-8 screws on the outside perimeter of the valve (in green below). Then, remove the valve cover and set to the side.
Assembling the Softener
1. Install the new valve cover and can secure it with the 6-8 screws.
2. Replace the geared cam.
3. Spin the gear (will be hard to turn), so that the Service ‘S’ mark is showing through the peep hole in the motor plate or cover once it's reattached.
4. Reattach the Switchbox, followed by the Motor Plate or Cover, and then Motor on top to complete the valve. Secure them with the screws you removed earlier.
5. Reconnect the thick red and black motor wires to the clear/white clip.
6. You'll plug the red wire harness connector back onto the control board.
7. Plug the power supply back into the outlet.
8. Pull the bypass handle back OUT.
9. Check for leaks over the next few hours.
