Has the homeowner noticed some white build-up on their dishes after being in the dishwasher? That could be a sign of a couple different things happening. Read on below for how to handle this.
Test the Water
You'll want to perform a hard water test.
The Results?
Where does the water test on the hardness scale?
0-3 gpg or 0-50 ppm
- The water is soft. You'll want to confirm that the soap dispensers are not blocked in the dishwasher. If the white buildup continues over multiple cycles, the white residue is likely TDS (total dissolved solids) in the water. Test the water to see if any additional filtration is needed.
Above 3 gpg or 50 ppm
- The water is testing hard. The white residue is likely hardness minerals settling on the dishes. To resolve this, follow our troubleshooting guide to confirm your softener is working.
