Water softeners monitor the soft water usage to determine when to trigger a recharge cycle. Follow the steps below to test the flow meter to ensure it is correctly metering a customers water use.
1. Hold the 'Program' button on the display panel until '000' appears on the screen, then let go - this is the water flow meter. If you see a '000h' here, the metering device is attached upside down. Visit our '000h' article to troubleshoot.
2. Turn on a faucet downstream of the softener and leave it running. Keep in mind that older plumbing was occasionally designed without the kitchen sink in the softened water loop. A bathroom sink hot-water faucet is generally a safe bet to use for this test.
3. You should see the '000' counting up rapidly - this means the softener is keeping track of your water usage. If the numbers do not count here, please visit our Water Meter Does Not Read article.
